Magicka is a satirical action-adventure game set in a rich fantasy world based on Norse mythology. The player assumes the role of a wizard from a sacred order tasked with stopping an evil sorcerer who has thrown the world into turmoil, his foul creations besieging the forces of good.

Players will be able to combine the elements to cast spells, wreaking havoc and devastation on the minions of darkness. They will also be able to team up with friends and fight their way through the campaign, or test their skills in the magickal arts through other challenging modes.

In Magicka, up to four players take on a grand adventure to save their world from certain doom using a fully dynamic spell system. The adventure mode takes the players across three different levels, ranging from the lush forests of mountain valleys to the frozen halls of the Mountain King where wits and creative thinking are the keys to victory.

In the unlockable hardcore challenge mode, players fight off waves of enemies to earn their place on local and online leaderboards.

  • Innovative and dynamic spell casting system
  • Up to four-player co-op in all game modes, as well as a single-player option
  • Fight your way through 13 different campaign levels
  • Explore an expansive realm of adventure to defeat the evil wizard
  • Find and unlock challenges, items, and powerful Magicks
  • Experience the parody and satire of a clichéd fantasy world

It's mere 10€ / $10 / £7.99

@Gargron I heard its very good. (Best seller on steam right now)

@DarkChaplain Is a high spec computer needed?

It was when it went up for sale, indeed.
Those who bought it til the 31st got a free DLC set to make up for their seemingly beta-testing role.
As far as I know, about 8 patches rolled in til now, and the singleplayer is completely stable for me, no issues at all.

Some people still have trouble with the multiplayer / staying connected, but right now thats just a fragment of the - what, 150.000? - players that bought it yet.
I have to see for myself, but I'm positive.
The devs are fixing the bugs as I speak and the game already is enjoyable as hell =)

@OneDollar
not really, just intel/notebook-users might get into trouble with their integrated graphics.

OS: Windows XP/Vista/7 (32- or 64-bit) Processor: Intel® Pentium® IV 2.4 GHz or AMD 3500+ Memory: 2 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon® X1900 DirectX®: DirectX 9 Hard Drive: 2 GB Available Space Sound: DirectX-compatible sound card Other Requirements: 3-button mouse, keyboard and speakers. DSL Internet connection for multiplayer

Play the demo if you're unsure, though =p

and many more

What @DarkChaplin said.

I have an integrated HD graphics card which SHOULD run most games wonderfully.

I've learned that this is not the case. -_-

@Shiroke
Well, that's a thing most people should already know beforehand; the problems regarding integrated graphics have been documented everywhere and it doesn't seem to get better anytime soon...
Thats why I will ALWAYS recommend playing Demos or even go as far as to pirate the games in question first, just to see if they will even run.
Nothing is more frustrating than spending money for something that you can't even use..

The thing about integrated graphics is btw not the strength, the ressources they can give, but the way they are designed

i want this...

I'm not gonna lie, that header image made me think power rangers.

OMG! They killed Yellow!
Die with yellow robes.

=p that much for colors XD

HOLY FREAKING LORD, I GOT A M60! xD

looks cool!

I bought it. Then I realized my computer graphics card is too fucking uncommon and hated by developers.

I am now very sad.

Also. It's funny how much of the game is only funny for swedish people xD The viking warlord says "vid Balders balle!" which means "By the balls of Balder!" and it comes from a tv show featuring stupid vikings called Hem Till Midgård (Back To Midgard/Middle earth) which I loved as a kid :D

"We started dunka dunka redan." "Dunka dunka" is herp derp for parteh. Dunk, att dunka = Thump, boom, hit, smash, to hit, to smash.

(what I mean by "herp derp" is no one actually says "dunka dunka")
And "redan" is "already".

Why I am able to tell you this is because I can still play the game on a friends computer. The game is friggin hilarious!

Wow.
This game gets really extremely HARD on singleplayer.
Fight off dozens of Goblins, Orcs and even armoured Trolls o_o

Amiral Agnar: "IT'S A TRAP!"

Well what should I say, I'm new here and looked through the forum and I found that one from a seemingly nice but kinda pointless or bashing guy I don't know:

If you have 10$ what would you do?

a. buy food
b. donate to the poor
c. buy a game called this game, and ruin your life with it.
d. both a and b

I guess I'll post the answer here, everything else seems pointless because he is seemingly asking some other knowledgeable dude I, again, do not know. which again led me here to this topic (complicated but bear with me)

Answer:
@wanderlust
Well if you ask it that way, I'd do c) for sure, at least that way I could either starve while having fun, instead of getting fatter (my fridge is full btw) or having fun while not supporting some drunkyard on the street.
According to your possibilities you'd probably go for a) or d), but that is just a wild guess hence you mentioned it twice.
Sorry just teasing because I found it funny ;3

*cough *
Anyway, seriously I'm going to buy it, it looks amazing and the previewvideo of the guy on youtube was quite enjoyable. I'd go for a blackmage as well, just because I'm a scary sadist kinda person while I'm playing games. XDDD

One question though... does anyone know how the online mode is? the same as singleplayer or just some weird "who's killing who and then burnuing his body while laughing" type of mode?

And has anybody finished it yet? How long is it, 10 bucks aren't very much and since some company like Square Enix likes to charge 40$ for 1-4h of playtime...well. *laugh *

@Alkaid

The online mode has Challenges, which I haven't tried yet
(Now I have)

They seem to be arena modes were you and your friends might try to survive waves of enemies.
There are Treasure Chests spawning randomly which are based on the Chest in Terry Pratchett's novels - means they've got legs and run around.
Upon death they drop Weapons, Staffs or Magicks.
It is really challenging, though. I got bombed away by Goblins just now xD

The other online mode would be the same as adventure; you won't need to fight alone but in coop.
The first three chapters aren't that hard on singleplayer, but afterwards you'll have a hard time alone and die a hell lot.
(Note that robbing your dead allies weapons and staffs is being encouraged by the game!)

The Adventure Mode is 13 Chapters long, I'm now at chapter 5 and 3:33h in, so it has plenty of stuff going on, let alone for all the stuff you can find if only you explore the world.

http://www.magickagame.com/sites/default/files/magick_charm_5.PNG

That sounds surprisingly nice... who'd have thought of that... o__o
Thank you for answering @DarkChaplain, I guess you really like the game huh...hmm~
Ahh Okay, I'll definitely buy it, thanks!
Guess steam has something to offer me after all. shishishi :D

Well so the average playtime will be about 7hours or so *nods * interesting!

Have you guys tried the bug, where the game freezez when you die? I've tried it a few times, and it means I have to restart that chapter :(

HINT: LOOK FOR SECRETS! In the very beginning there was a lake, if you freeze it you can go all the way over to the other side and find a new spell there! I also found a sword that shoots lazer xD

http://www.magickagame.com/sites/default/files/magick_invisibility_2.png

The game NEVER froze when I was playing.
It might happen in multiplayer, but I'd guess thats more a thing of bad connections than anything.

8 patches have been rolled out since release to address the multiplayer issues, and it seems like its only a small fraction that still has issues (mostly those who don't search for solutions before complaining)

So you got grease as well? XD
Oh I found such epic stuff already...
And I always cast haste before encountering anything xD"

Yea I use haste ALL THE TIME

I know all spells in my fingers already (Not that I have them all).

When I don't want fun with explosions, then I found that getting stuff wet then doing beam-ice-ice-ice-ice kills everything EXTREMELY fast. It's nice :D
